The small village of Sunwich Port on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast lies about ten kilometers to the north of Port Shepstone, and falls under its umbrella. Sunwich Port is just after the well known Banana Beach. The village has some good scuba diving, especially out at the Aliwal Shoal a few kilometres out to sea. Port Shepstone is the regional capital of the KwaZulu-Natal south coast and is situated some 120 kilometres to the south of Durban at the junction of the N2, which branches here to Harding, and the R61. Port Shepstone has 20 kilometres of beautiful beaches stretching north and south and including Sunwich Port.
Twenty kilometers inland from Sunwich Port is the Oribi Gorge, a 400 metre deep gorge that is the largest and most spectacular gorge in KwaZulu-Natal. This gorge is in an 1800-hectare nature reserve along the Umzimkulwana River and is between Port Shepstone and Harding. The Oribi Gorge – a place of echoes – was created over millions of years as the Umzimkulwana river carved its way over flat rock, finding faults in the stone and eroding enormously deep and narrow gorges. At the base of the cliffs there are rocks that are 100 million years old.
Ten kilometers south of Sunwich Port is the well known Port Shepstone golf course.
Beach at Sunwich Port, shark nets and lifeguards as well as tidal pool.
